My Experiences on EDUC165 Distance Learning
This 2nd semester Special Topics (EDUC165) is the only subject that I enrolled but behind of having one subject I had many experiences, some of this are communicating with the principal and the teachers of the school where conduct some of the task in this activity, also I had my experience on how can I communicate to the parents on the school.
Communicating and conducting this task is challenging for me, this is not my first time to conduct activity like this but every time I communicate with the principal, teachers, and all of the students I feel nervousbut yet happy. Every time I do activity like this I gain more knowledge from the principal and teachers, I gain more confidence for myself because this is the profession that I took up, someday I become one of the teachers who share knowledge to the students and become successful in my field of specialization.
When I conduct this activities all of the teachers and the principal are approachable, I don’t encounter any problems. I got information
Evaluation
Objective: This course aims to give the teacher education students an opportunity to explore current issues and topics not included in the other professional education courses but are seen to be important and highly relevant to CLSU College of Education’s mission and vision.
This course Special Topics (EDUC65) is more on hands-on, creating blogs for us to be globally competitive in terms of being a students and being a future teachers. For me, surfing in the internet is gaining knowledge and this is my first time creating my own blog. Create my own blog is not easy I didn’t know where I go to make blog, this is my first so I ask my friend to help me in creating my own blogs. “Learning y doing” this is true based on my experience in creating my own blog, I learn how to create and having blog for the first time and this is the first step on how to become globally competitive.
This subject allows the students to become aware about the issue inside and outside the school campus using technology, sharing some thoughts based on the experiences of individuals and this course help us to become more knowledgeable in the field of our specialization.

Module #9: Environmental Education

The film HOME by Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a beautifully shot panorama of the Earth and the damage done to it by modern humanity. It includes a moving narration about the evolution of the Earth, nature, agriculture, humans, and the crises of habitat destruction, energy depletion, climate disruption, degradation... of the environment, health, economic disparity, and more. They are well integrated in the film, but many assumptions in the script make this film hard to recommend unless accompanied by a reality check on energy and the value of traditional ways. The movie starts by taking the viewer back to the beginning of time, and explains how and when life on Earth came about. We learn, for example, that the world is four billion years old, whereas humans are only 200,000 years old. In the relatively short time we have been around, however, we have had more impact than any other species. In the last 50 years alone, the movie says, the Earth has been more radically changed than by all previous generations of humanity. The movie narrates how our mother earth evolved, how the beautiful trenches were molded, the placid and bluish color of the sea, the formation of rocks, mountains, and other magnificent sceneries were being shown and narrated.
The film also shows the ecological cycle of life. The biological evolution of plants where many kinds of plants were growing and cultivating around the world and the evolution of human and animal lives that we never thought would be the one who will destroy the beautiful picturesque of our mother earth.   From time to time, in the film, the narrator demonstrates and explains the structure of our earth 200 billion years ago.
One thing that I observed in the film was that in every continent in our globe there are these big changes that happened. In Asia, the continent where I belong has so many natural resources. These resources are disappearing little by little. No one can prevent the changes because these changes help us to survive without knowing that by surviving, our mother earth is also suffering.

Module #7: What teachers really want to tell parents

Teachers and parents always give advice to their pupils and their child to become strong one, teachers and parents are having same ambition and views about their pupils and their child. They give advice not just they want to hurt the feelings of their pupils and child but they give advice to them to become much greater in the future.
Teachers become second parents of the students and most of the pupils give more time and effort to talk and share problem to their teachers, more of the teachers has more knowledge about their students than their own parents. When the teachers told to the parents about the attitudes that they have the parents confuse if it’s true or not, because some pupils has different attitude when they are inside and outside the school.
Teachers always want to learn their pupils from going to school every day, they have given simple quizzes, reading materials, sometimes if the pupils are in lower grades the teacher give more effort in giving exercises and visual materials, they give drawing materials  and assignments. In this situation the teachers always want to understand by the parents that the assignment are important for the pupils because this is their lesson then there are in their home. If you are the parents help your child to finish and understand all of the assignment that given by the teachers.
It’s usually the best teachers who are giving the lowest grades, because they are raising their expectations. Some parents always complain with the teachers when their child get lower grades but do parents realize that instead of negotiate with the teachers think and understand why it is given by the teachers, don’t complain instead be a partner of the school and the teachers to promote good quality of education.
Teachers always teach good manner and correct lessons. As generation pass by the knowledge that learn by the students will learn also by the next students. As a teacher, you always teach correct lessons because simple correction will become bigger one. When you are confuse about your lesson think several times before you teach because as the pupils adopt that mistake it’s always become a mistake. Teaching is not easy especially when there is no cooperation with the part of the parents.

Module #6: Reflection

Women Relieved As ‘RH’ Law Takes Effect
By AFP
January 17, 2013, 6:17pm

MANILA, Philippines --- A controversial birth control law came into effect Thursday after more than a decade of bitter opposition from the influential Catholic Church, with women saying the change came as a relief.
The government is still threshing out how to implement the law, which proponents say will help moderate the nation’s rapid population growth, reduce poverty, and bring down high maternal mortality.
But Catholic groups have already shifted their battle to the courts, questioning the law’s constitutionality. The church, which counts 80 percent of Filipinos as followers, disallows the use of artificial contraceptives.
A group of women lining up for contraceptives at a non-governmental organization’s health center in a slum area of Manila said the change of law came as a relief.
Housewife Nerissa Gallo, 44, who has already had 16 children, said it would bring contraceptives into the reach of the poor.
She broke into tears as she recalled the difficulty she has faced in raising her children, four of whom died after suffering from diarrhea.
Asked about the church’s opposition, she said: “We don’t pay attention to that. They are not the ones who are giving birth again and again. We are the ones who have to find a way to care for the children.”
The medical charity Merlin praised the law as a “milestone” but said more efforts were needed to make sure it was properly implemented.
“There is likely to be cultural opposition... led by religious conservatives, which could make it hard for clinics to offer services,” country director, MaximePiasecki, said.
But the historic Responsible Parenthood law (popularly known as Reproductive Health (RH) law) came too late for Rosalie Cabenan, a housewife who has given birth 22 times.
Frail, with a leathery face streaked with wrinkles, 48-year-old Cabenan suffers from untreated gall stones and constant fatigue because her body has never had the time to properly recover from her successive pregnancies.
“We only wanted three children. But they kept coming and coming,” Cabenan told AFP this week at her ramshackle home in Baseco, a massive slum in Manila where more than 60,000 people compete for space.
“I was always pregnant and there was no time to take care of myself because I had to keep working to help my husband feed the children. I have tried everything, a stevedore (dock worker), a laundry woman, fish monger and a vegetable seller.”
Cabenan had her first child when she was just 14. When she nearly died giving birth to her youngest, who is now six, she finally abandoned the demands of the Catholic Church to not use contraceptives.
A devout Catholic who still goes to mass twice a week, Cabenan nevertheless regrets following the church dogma so strictly and said she welcomed the Responsible Parenthood Law that officially took effect.
The law requires government health centers to hand out free condoms and birth control pills, benefiting tens of millions of the country’s poor who would not otherwise be able to afford or have access to them.
It also mandates that sex education be taught in schools and public health workers receive family planning training, while post-abortion medical care has been made legal for the first time.
“I tell women now, please do not be like me. I have too many children, and sometimes I do not know what to do and just cry, especially when they fight,” she said.
President Aquino signed the bill into law last month in the face of strong lobbying by the Catholic church, and religious leaders have vowed that the fight is not over.
The church is now relying on lay groups that have filed petitions with the Supreme Court questioning the constitutionality of the law, said Roy Lagarde, a spokesman for the country’s Catholic bishops.
The bishops will hold a regular meeting this weekend where measures to oppose the law will be discussed, he added.
The law’s chief author Congressman EdcelLagman said he was confident the court would uphold the change.
“We have long expected that the opposition will go to the Supreme Court. We have prepared for this eventuality,” he told AFP.
Although took effect as of Thursday, Hazel Chua, an official at the Health Department’s family planning unit, said they were still preparing implementation rules and regulations, which will only be released in April.
Under the law, government health centers will have to have a supply of contraceptives, unlike in the past when local mayors could be intimidated by the church into not providing birth control services, she said.

Reproductive Health Bill

The Philippines is facing again a very serious issue that affects moral values and its culture.  This is really a very serious issue and could really change the life of every Filipino, Issue pertaining to Reproductive Health Bill. Many Filipinos are very naive about this and most probably has no idea of what possible effects that could destroy our true Filipino morality with the concern of reproduction and sex.  Religious groups and organizations opposed this bill, and so with the few conservative Filipinos, but for those whose minds were twisted by only on politics and business, they thought that to reduce poverty is through population control.
One of the most controversial bills pending in Congress, primarily brought about by the strong and active opposition by the Roman Catholic Church, is the Reproductive Health Bill. This is not the first time that a proposed law on reproductive health has been filed in Congress and the bills were not uniformly referred to as the Reproductive Health Bill or RH Bill, which term is used basically for convenience to refer to bills of similar nature.
The RH Bill is controversial because the Catholic Church is vehemently opposed to any legalization of birth control or discussion of family planning. The opponents of the bill have spread a large number of myths and tried to make people afraid that the bill would make abortion legal and cause immoral behavior. They also claim this bill will lead to abortion on demand, and that even criticizing the bill could result in fines or penalties. In their view, the RH Bill would thus diminish religious freedom. That is why the Catholic Church has delayed this bill from even coming to a vote for nearly a decade.
This controversial Reproductive Health Law is set to effect after more than a decade of bitter opposition from the influential Catholic Church, with woman saying the change come as a relief. President Benigno Aquino III signed the measure last December 21, 2012.
Today, we all know that many women giving birth in their young age because of their young age they don’t ready for the sequences of being a young wife and young mother for their children. Many women got pregnant at the minor age and when they turn in to the legal age they have many children they giving birth many times so some of them use contraceptives to control unwanted pregnancy.
This article show that many women like Rosalie Cabenan giving birth many times and because she has no time to take care of herself she suffer from different illness and also she has no enough time to take care of their children equally. Behind of this controversial Reproductive Health Law some clinic in different places gives free condoms’ and birth control pills for the people who need it, but the church disapprove giving this king of contraceptives because for Catholic Church this is abortion. We all know that abortion is killing one’s life.
Some of the people and the government agencies agree with this law because of them this is the one way to moderate the nation’s rapid population growth, to reduce poverty, and to bring down high maternal mortality.
For me, when they say “Reproductive Health Law” or “RH Law” I depend on the agree side. I agree with this law because like the other people say this law helps the government, this law requires our government health centers to hand free condoms and birth control pills for unwanted pregnancy of the women around. Sex education will be taught in schools and public workers receive family planning training while post- abortion medical care has been made legal for the first time.

Listen to the music of other countries and learned to sing one song. Video record yourself singing it. Post the lyrics.

Module #5: Characteristics of Global Classroom

A globally competent citizen exhibits the characteristics listed below:
1.      Has appreciation for people from other cultures
Even though we are in different cultures a globally competent citizen appreciate the people from other cultures, they also need respect as we need it, respect them in the culture that they have and show them that even if they have their own cultures we are concern and we respect them.

2.      Is sensitive to the needs of people different from themselves.
A globally competent citizen is perceptive to the needs of the people in our country; behind of their own needs they are aware and give importance to the needs of other people.

3.      Has increasing knowledge about people around the world.
Every citizen increase their knowledge about people around the world, she/ he increase his/ her knowledge in a different way. A globally competent citizen gives high appreciation to the different people around the world, they have high knowledge how they communicate to other people.

4.      Has critical cognitive skills and attitudes such as empathy, interconnectedness, perspective taking, cross-cultural understanding, action orientation, and prejudice reduction.
A globally competent citizen has positive vision in life, understanding culture of others and especially understands our own culture, even though we have different culture we need to respect and understand the culture of others.

As an educator, you can make a difference in teaching and learning locally and globally when you address the needs of the nation you serve and transit the proper attitudes and beliefs you think to be necessary to maintain the society of which you are a part through your learners in a global classroom.

Characteristics of a Global Classroom
How can you make your classroom a global community?
Global perspective is integrated throughout the school curriculum not just in social studies.

This is integrated all over the school curriculum not just in social studies because global perspective is  a global perspective is one that takes into account the effects of any decision on a global scale. This is important because many decisions made by countries actually do affect the global community.

International focus courses are developed in areas such as anthropology, regional history, geography, global or world studies, foreign language study, world religions, ethnic group studies, international business, music, and art.
I can make my classroom a globally community because using this course I can teach my students more on this different area, having more interactions between me and all of my students.
Internationalizing instructional methods and materials emphasize intercultural interaction and culturally appropriate methods of instruction and assessment. Partnership programs with other schools and countries can also be developed.
Different methods and instructional materials are needed in teaching, teacher introduce lesson and you share knowledge by interacting with your pupils using the different instructional methods and materials. This is not only for the Filipino’s but also for the people in other countries.
Encouraging international travel as an important part of one’s education
Studying in our country is very important , you gain more about our own culture, how Filipino’s live and how Filipino’s face different challenges but also some of us travel around the world because they encounter different people and they understand their culture and this is important to one’s education.
